About the Role
Reporting to the Specialist Supports Manager, the Behaviour Support Specialist, in this role, you will play a pivotal part in improving the lives of individuals with disabilities. You will focus on promoting skill development, independence, and an enhanced quality of life through professional, person-centred practices.
Your primary responsibilities will include leading positive behaviour support planning, conducting functional behavioural assessments, and developing and implementing proactive strategies. Additionally, you will provide training to ensure these strategies are effectively applied.
Duties:
• Perform work responsibilities in a manner which reflects a commitment to Dli's strategic directions and priorities and contributes to the efficient and effective functioning of the relevant service and business area
• Actively participate in Dli's Performance and Development System which includes regular reviews, meeting set objectives and performance expectations associated with the role's key outcomes, accountabilities and Dli's strategic priorities
• Maintain culture and diversity knowledge in relation to staff and Dli's client base
• Ensure the provision of the rights of individuals by demonstrating knowledge and commitment to client rights and responsibilities regarding service provision
• Undertake any other duties as required commensurate with skills, knowledge, experience or qualifications as directed by management
Positive Behaviour Supports:
• Have an in-depth knowledge, understanding and ensure all NDIS Quality and Safeguarding Commission requirements for Behaviour Support Practitioners are met
• In-depth understanding and ability to conduct functional behaviour analysis
• Conduct, and implemented effective data collections methods with a variety of stakeholders, and the person, to inform a functional behaviour analysis and positive behaviour support plan
• Provide evidence informed proactive, skill development and reactive strategies within a positive behaviour support plan
• In-depth understanding of the use Regulated Restrictive Practice
Qualifications, Training and Experience:
• Tertiary qualifications in Disability, Developmental Education, Psychology, Social Work, or equivalent degree
• Child Safe Environments Through Your Eyes or Responding to Abuse and Neglect
• NDIS Quality, Safety and You Orientation Module
• Health Support Training
• First Aid and CPR
• Demonstrated experience applying person-centred practice.
• An understanding of regulated restrictive practice.
Employment Screenings and Professional Memberships:
• Current NDIS Worker Screening
• Current Working with Children Check 0NWCC)
• Member of the DEAi (Developmental Educators Australia Incorporated) or Allied Health Professional Body Registration or Association
• Core, Proficient, Advanced or Specialist Registration with the NDIS Quality and Safeguarding Commission as a Behavioural Support Practitioner.
Special Conditions:
• Current Australian Driver's licence or ability to travel independently to other disAability Living sites
• Maintenance of mandatory training certifications as required by Dli.
• Relocation within the organisation as required
• Agreement to undergo medical or functional capacity evaluation by a practitioner of Disability Living's choosing should Dli reasonably believe this is required
